The students and staff at Upper St. Clair High School have demonstrated unwavering dedication to school spirit from the very beginning. Perusing old USC game photos reveals a consistent presence of fans supporting the teams. Traditionally, the primary team engaging the crowd was the cheerleaders. However, two years ago, the Upper St. Clair dance and hip-hop teams merged to form USCDT.
The Upper St. Clair Dance Team, or USCDT, boasts a history of over 25 years. In the 2022–2023 season, they welcomed a new head coach, Courtney Wreggett, who was one of the original members of the Upper St. Clair dance team. The team showcases their performances during halftime at football and basketball games.
Riley Moorehead, a junior captain, has been a member of the dance team since her freshman year. She emphasizes the unique work ethic cultivated by the dance team, describing it as unparalleled. Riley articulates the artistry and athleticism involved, highlighting the intense practice and conditioning that set dance apart. She expresses a deep affection for her teammates, describing the dance team experience as irreplaceable. Riley emphasizes the program’s excellence and advocates for its recognition.
Nina Spereze, a sophomore on the team, shares her positive sentiments about being part of USC Dance. She cherishes the fun and creative performances, finding the competitions to be amazing experiences. Nina credits Coach Courtney as the glue holding the team together, emphasizing her support and motivation.
Junior Nathan Haberman acknowledges the dance team’s significant role in boosting school spirit. He finds them enjoyable to watch and often considers them his favorite part of the game, especially when USC is facing challenges. The dance team serves as a great means to re-energize the crowd for the second half.
With only 16 days remaining until UDA dance nationals, the dance team is filled with anticipation. While currently recognized as a club team, many members aspire to elevate its status to a full-school team. Keep an eye out for upcoming halftime shows at the upcoming boys’ basketball games.
